For a first proper backcountry ride, book the Whistler Wilderness Run from Canadian Wilderness Adventures, on Viator from $244 per snowmobile for one or two riders. It is rated 4.9 from 796 reviews, the most of any snowmobile tour on this page, and its three hours take you beyond the beginner trails onto forest routes and frozen lakes. If you have young children, want deep powder, or are after a dinner at a mountain cabin, one of the other rides below will suit you better.

Whistler snowmobile tours by type

Three operators sell the tours below, and they ride in different places. Prices are USD as listed in September 2026. Most are per person; the two Canadian Wilderness Adventures tours are priced per snowmobile.

Every snowmobile listing on GetYourGuide is new this winter, with no reviews yet, and the first bookable dates fall between 1 and 5 December 2026. The reviewed tours are on Viator, which is why most of this page points there.

First rides and beginners

The Callaghan Cruiser is built for first-timers, double riders and families. Wide, winding trails lead through the Callaghan Valley to the old NorthAir Goldmine site at an easy pace, and it costs the same $244 per snowmobile as the Wilderness Run. Blackcomb Snowmobile’s two-hour Wilderness Tour is the shorter choice. It follows groomed trails in the Brandywine and Callaghan valleys, stops at a backcountry cabin for a hot drink and a snack, and lends winter clothing if you need it. The same operator sells it on both marketplaces: $205 on GetYourGuide, a new listing with no reviews yet, or $210 on Viator, rated 4.9 from 628 reviews. The Adventure Group’s Beginner Snowmobile Tour ($249, new) adds time at its base camp afterwards, with a snowshoe trail, fire pits and axe throwing for ages 13 and up.

Families with children

Children ride as passengers with an adult driver, and the youngest age depends on the tour. Blackcomb Snowmobile takes passengers from age 5, and on its family tour children 5 to 12 ride free with one paying adult each. Halfway round, kids under 100 lb get their own laps on mini snowmobiles on the Mini-Z track. It is $210 on Viator (4.5 from 33 reviews) or $205 on GetYourGuide as a new listing.

The Callaghan Cruiser also lets children 5 to 12 ride free with a paying adult, but passengers must be at least 48 inches tall. The Adventure Group’s Family Snowmobile Adventure ($249, new) is for kids 6 to 12 and has its own “Little Z” mini sleds. The Wilderness Run is not a family ride: its passengers must be 10 or older.

The Wilderness Run and harder terrain

The Wilderness Run is aimed at intermediate riders, or anyone who has driven an ATV or a motorcycle. It goes further into the backcountry than the Cruiser, through thick forest and out onto frozen lakes, and each machine carries up to 375 lb (170 kg) combined. Departures leave the village at 8:00, 11:00 and 2:30, and the three hours include the shuttle, training and ride. Our Wilderness Run breakdown has the details.

For steep climbs and deep powder, The Adventure Group’s Backcountry Snowmobile Adventure ($288 on GetYourGuide, new) is for confident riders aged 13 and up, at least 122 cm tall, and finishes with base-camp activities. Canadian Wilderness Adventures also runs longer single-rider expeditions such as Backcountry X, booked directly with the company.

Private and evening rides

Blackcomb Snowmobile’s two-hour private tour gives your group its own guide, who can shape the route around photo stops or a surprise. It needs at least two snowmobiles and includes a hot drink and a cookie at the cabin. It is booked on Viator, from $239 per person:

Snowmobile dinner tours

The dinner ride people search for is Canadian Wilderness Adventures’ Sproatt Steak Night. It rides through the Callaghan backcountry to a cabin on Sproatt Mountain for a three-course dinner of butternut squash soup, Angus sirloin and sticky toffee pudding, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. It runs about 4.5 hours, leaving at 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It is not sold on GetYourGuide or Viator, so you book it directly with the company; the operator’s own CAD rate at the time of writing is $399 for a single rider or $359 per person sharing. Drivers, licences and what to wear

Drivers must be 19 or older. Canadian Wilderness Adventures and Blackcomb Snowmobile ask for a full licence equivalent to a BC Class 5. The Adventure Group accepts a novice licence; a learner’s permit is not accepted anywhere. Collision coverage is compulsory for each driver and paid on the day: the operators’ own CAD rate at the time of writing is $35 plus GST.

Helmets and goggles come with every tour. Blackcomb Snowmobile adds warm clothing if you need it. Canadian Wilderness Adventures adds gloves and has a little outerwear to lend, and The Adventure Group expects you to bring your own. Tours run in all weather, so dress in warm, waterproof layers. Pregnant guests cannot ride.

Where the tours ride, and when

Canadian Wilderness Adventures checks you in at Carleton Lodge in the village and shuttles you out. Blackcomb Snowmobile rides in the Callaghan and Brandywine valleys, 15 to 25 minutes south of the village, not on Blackcomb Mountain, and the company recommends driving to its base. The Adventure Group rides on Cougar Mountain, about 10 minutes north, with a shuttle from the village.

The season depends on snow. It usually starts in early winter and runs into spring, and the marketplace listings open in the first week of December 2026.
